Crashes and Startup Problems in Valheim – Valheim players experience problems such as crashes, startup problems and various other errors. This guide lists these errors and how to fix them.
With some users Valheim crashes, with others it doesn’t even start.
Valheim is one of those independent games that prove you don’t have to have a big budget to be successful. Evne in its early access to gaming is doing quite well so far. It’s a great game, and I’m sure people who are new to survival games like Ark will love it too.
That doesn’t mean the game is perfect. Valheim has its share of problems. Many players have already started complaining about problems such as the game crashing and booting. Here are the problems Valheim PC gamers encounter, and some steps to fix them.
Recovery after the Valheim crash
Valheim collapses for some users. Here’s what you can do about it.
Update your drivers and operating system to resolve compatibility issues. This should be a done deal. The newer the drivers, the better the compatibility.
It is possible that random Valheim crashes are caused by an application or overclocking program running in the background. Many games have been crashed recently by applications like MSI Afterburner. Therefore, it is best to be cautious and let the graphics card run at its default speed.
If you get errors such as “vcruntime140_1.dll is missing” or “MSVCP140.dll was not found”. Install the latest version of Visual C++ Redistribution, as it may have been installed incorrectly.
Valheim does not make the correction
For some users, Valheim doesn’t start at all. Here’s what you can do about it.
The cause of the startup failure may be the presence of corrupted files in the folder. You can fix this by checking the game via Steam to see if there are any files on your system that could cause the game to crash or freeze:
-
- Go to your steam library
- Right-click on Valheim
- Select properties
- Click on the Local Files tab
- Click on the “Check Integrity of Game File” button.
In some cases, the Valheim .exe file may be quarantined by anti-virus software, preventing the game from running. In this case, you may need to disable the real-time scanning or real-time protection feature of your anti-virus program to run the game. If you do not wish to disable it completely, you should add Valheim .exe to your anti-virus software’s exclusion list.
You can also avoid running the game once through Steam and try running the Valheim executable or .exe file as an administrator directly from the installation folder. Just go to your Valheim installation folder > Right-click on the .exe file > Click on the “Compatibility” tab > Check the “Run this program as administrator” box. And that’s all you have to do.
If none of the above solutions work for you, you have no choice but to reinstall the game. So try a fresh install.
These are all the solutions we currently have for people for whom Valheim may or may not be falling. We will be adding more soon. Click here to visit the Valheim Steam discussion page and see what others are saying about it.
That’s it, folks!
